About the Event
The reform of the Protection of Minors Act was passed in the Bundestag on March 5 and approved by the Bundesrat on March 26. As a result, the Second Act to amend the Protection of Young Persons Act will enter into force on May 1. The JuSchG has thus (finally) been brought into the digital age. In the explanatory memorandum, it was rightly pointed out that a paradigm shift in the protection of children and young people is necessary so that the newly emerged risk dimensions of digital interaction are taken into account. In the future, a standardization of the age labeling of games and films will apply. Protection goals were named and the right of children to carefree participation in safe media interaction spaces.
The expert forum will discuss the future practice of youth media protection. Contact and communication risks through cyberbullying and cybergrooming, self-harm, data sharing and excessive media use will be discussed, as will the new Bundeszentrale für Kinder- und Jugendmedienschutz [Federal Agency for the Protection of Young Persons in the Media]. But also preventive offers in education and upbringing to strengthen young people and families in the use of digital offers will be addressed.
