Digitale Meinungsbildung

Things have changed. In the past, traditional media such as Der Spiegel and Tagesschau played a central role in shaping public opinion. Today, however, we are additionally presented with selected news on Facebook via algorithms, read the tweets of the US president or watch YouTube news videos that were not made by journalists. Fake news and social bots lead to uncertainty and the debates on many websites are dominated by radical voices.

Digitalisation has changed the media public and with it the formation of political opinion. How has our use of news changed and what does this mean for our democracy? Where are the dangers and opportunities of digital opinion-forming? How do the media have to react to the changed framework conditions and how do users have to react to them?

We will discuss this with Prof. Dr. Wiebke Loosen and Dr. Barbara Hans (Editor-in-Chief of Spiegel Online). It is moderated by Dr. Kathrin Voss (freelance communications consultant).

The event is public and free of charge.
This event is sponsored by the State Agency for Political Education of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
