Digitaler Salon: Diskriminierung vorprogrammiert?

Katharina Mosene will introduce the topic of discrimination in digital technologies and networks at the upcoming Digitaler Salon of the HIIG.

Face recognition software has a high error rate in People of Color, and speech programmes recognise British or American English better than English with an accent. What are the criteria used to grant loans? And how do algorithmic prejudices arise? And how can existing power structures be dismantled so that they are not reproduced in digital form? Google has set itself the goal of banning racist terms from computer language. They replace "blacklist" and "whitelist" with "blocklist" and "allowlist". What role does the environment we live in and the way we talk and chat with each other play? Are we aware that we are already shaping the data for the programming of algorithms and artificial intelligence?

The following guests will discuss this topic at the Salon:

• Shirin Riazy, research associate at the HTW Berlin in the project "LADI – Learning Analytics und Diskriminierung", which deals with how discrimination can be promoted or prevented through the use of algorithmic evaluations.
   
• Christina Dinar, deputy director of the Centre for Human Internet and Human Rights, works in political education against the spread of Hate Speech on the Internet.
   
• Katja Weber (radioeins, Deutschlandfunk Nova) will moderate the event.

Doors will be opened at 6.30 p.m. From 7:00 p.m. on, the talk will be broadcasted live on hiig.de. Then it's time to join in - via Twitter or sli.do using #DigSal.
