The 28th
Nürnberger Forum der Kinder- und Jugendarbeit [Nuremberg Forum of Child and Youth Work] is dedicated to the topic “Alles fit? – Chancen für ein gesundes Aufwachsen von jungen Menschen in der Kinder- und Jugendarbeit [You Alright? – Young People’s Opportunities for Growing Up Healthy in Child and Youth Work].”
“Growing Up Healthy” is a central programmatic code when it comes to formulating positive goals for child and youth welfare. This also applies to youth work. The Children and Youth Welfare Act expressly states health education as a priority for it. However, for many people there might be the question what youth work has to do with health. Some see little points of contact. On the other hand, youth work supports and enables young people in many ways, and health is an important element of this. So if a broad concept of health is applied, which covers many areas of everyday lives and includes physical, mental and emotional well-being as well as the educational responsibility of youth work, then the category ‘health’ can no longer be missing. This does not only include nutrition, eating, cooking or exercise and sport but also questions of addiction prevention, stress and relaxation as well as negative consequences of beauty ideals and a culture that focuses on the ‘perfect body’
