The
Annual Conference of the International Communications Association (ICA) takes place in Prague from 24 to 28 May 2018. The Hans-Bredow-Institut will be represented by numerous contributions. In a total of five panels and four lectures, researchers of the institute wil present their current research.
An Overview of the Contributions by the Hans-Bredow-Institut
Preconference: 23 May 2018
09:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. - Prior to the official opening of the conference,
Prof. Dr. Wiebke Loosen and
Julius Reimer will give a lecture on “Extending the Methods of Media and Communication Studies by Design Research: Co-Creation as an Approach for Journalism Research” at the pre-conference of the ICA. The pre-conference “Design as Object, Design as Method: Making Critical Communication Futures“ will focus on the topic of design in communication.

09:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. - Parallel to this, the preconference on "Trust, Control and Privacy: Mediatisation of Childhood and Adolescence in the Digital Age" takes place, at which the Hans-Bredow-Institut will be represented with three presentations:
- Lecture by Dr. Uwe Hasebrink, Dipl.-Jur.Stephan Dreyer et. al.: "Balancing Trust and Control: How Adolescents between 9 and 16 and Their Parents Negotiate Issues of Online Safety"
- Lecture by Dipl.-Jur. Stephan Dreyer: “Trust as a Prerequisite or Trust as an Outcome? The Relationship between Trust, Transparency and Consent in Child-Specific Privacy Legislation”
- Dr. Claudia Lampert: "How can Good (Health) Apps for Kids Be Found? Challenges in Terms of Trust, Transparency and Media Literacy"
