About the Event
Ongoing technological revolution in artificial intelligence brings unprecedented challenges, which disrupt some of the fundamental ideas of democracy. Large scale manipulation for political purpose for instance can be achieved by applications relying on AI to target misinformation campaigns which leverage on the concentration of powerful digital platforms and echo chambers. With regulation struggling to follow the pace of technological development, confidence in democratic authorities and processes is challenged.
This session will discuss how AI can be used to strengthen our democracies rather than weaken them, how AI can be used to rethink our democratic processes and how AI could enable new forms of participation in democracy. What advantages do Japan, France and Germany have in working together (i.e. scientists, companies, political decision-makers, etc.) on this topic? Why? How can we improve the cooperation and what are the current brakes and locks?
