Mediale Flieh- und Bindungskräfte [Medial Escapes and Medial Ties]

Media play a key role in processes social, cultural and economic mediation between migrants and locals.  Based on the phrases 'Century of Expulsion' and the 'Long Century of Mass Media', the role of the classic media or the new digital media in the negotiation between flight and expulsion will be examined. How do media contribute to modulate the conception of space and home, to change communitisation and to construct new identities? What effects do the transnational disseminations of broadcasting and online media have on these processes? What role do foreign broadcasting, broadcasting for foreign workers, ethnic media and community media have? And how does a loss of credibility of "mainstream media" as well as right-wing populist media react on integrative processes?

Der Studienkreis Rundfunk und Geschichte [Study Group Broadcasting and History] discusses different sides of this topics from a historical and contemporary perspective at its annual conference in co-operation with Deutsche Wellen on June 8/9, 2017 in Bonn.
