As part of the international research network
EU Kids Online,
Dr. Claudia Lampert,
Prof. Dr. Uwe Hasebrink and
Kira Thiel interviewed 1,044 children and young people in Germany aged between nine and 17 as well as their parents concerning their online experiences. The results will be presented at a press conference in Berlin on 19 September 2019.
Nowadays, most children in Germany are practically always online via smartphone. A separation between the digital and the real world is becoming increasingly difficult to draw. What are the experiences of girls and boys online? What risks are they exposed to - what opportunities do they use? To what extent are children's rights protected in the digital world?
The study makes recommendations for better protection, empowerment and participation of children in the digital world. It will be published one day before the
World Children's Day on 20 September.
The study was supported by UNICEF, the Deutsche Telekom Foundation, the Niedersächsische Landesmedienanstalt and the Medienpädagogische Forschungsverbund Südwest.
