The Temptation of Social Media

At the symposium “Bildung im Ausland [Education Abroad]”, which is organised by the Deutsche Fachverband ‘High School’, Dr. Jan-Hinrik Schmidt gives a lecture on the topic of "Was ist der Reiz der sozialen Medien? Wie das Internet Selbstdarstellung, Beziehungspflege und Informationsverhalten beeinflusst [What Is the Temptation of Social Media? How the Internet Influences Self-Representation, Relationship Management and Information Behaviour]".

As the most important meeting place for the industry and networks of this kind, the symposium offers employees of organisations in the area of “Education Abroad” a platform for exchanging experiences and discussing all kinds of topics. The main topics of this year's conference are the influence of political and social conditions on international student exchanges, changed attitudes of adolescents and parents as well as the meaning of social media. Besides the actual exchange organisations, the conference also addresses representatives of schools, private educational institutes and associations, for whom the following topics are of interest.

The symposium “Bildung im Ausland [Education Abroad]“ was founded in 2008 by the independent educational advisory service ‘weltweiser’. In 2017, 2018 and 2019, the organisation of the symposium takes place in a rotational mode due to a cooperation between the Arbeitskreis gemeinnütziger Jugendaustauschorganisationen (AJA), the Deutsche Fachverband High School (DFH) and ‘weltweiser’.
