The international Safer Internet Day 2019 will take place on 5 February. Under the motto “Together for a better Internet”, the initiative of the European Commission is calling for events and actions on the topic of ‘Internet Safety’ around the world. On the evening of the Safer Internet Day, the
Association for Media Education and Communication Culture (GMK e.V.) and the
German Association for Voluntary Self-Regulation of Digital Media Service Providers (FSM e.V.) will address and discuss key issues of this day within the format of the “Medienpädagogischer Küchentalk”.
Dr. Claudia Lampert of the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI) will be joining the event.
The following questions will be discussed: How do the protection of minors in the media and active participation of children and young people in the digital space go together? How can child protection, prevention and empowerment intertwine and together enable a safe, protected use of media and an equally positive and participative media experience for adolescents within their (digital) environment? What responsibilities must service providers, politicians, preventative and pedagogical work fulfil individually as well as together? How can children and young people be empowered to act responsibly in the media, taking their behaviour adequately into account (such as “sexting”)?
Prior to the discussion, you have the opportunity to participate in a “quick visit” of the interactive installation “The Glass Room Experience” on the topics of data, data traces and privacy at the Museum for Communication Berlin.

The Medienpädagogische Küchentalk is a joint event organised by the German Association for Voluntary Self-Regulation of Digital Media Service Providers (FSM e.V.) and the Association for Media Education and Communication Culture (GMK e.V.). Together, we would like to use this relaxed atmosphere to discuss exciting challenges of media education, politics and society and to debate current issues of digital education.
