Protecting minors means working on relationships! Because a relationship based on mutual trust between experts and children, adolescents and parents is a necessary requirement for success support. Experts face different challenges everyday: they have to notice the needs of all people who are involved, recognise the risks for the child and find solutions and perspectives in dialogue with everyone involved.
Families today have trouble distancing themselves from the public image of the perfect child and their parents who provide optimal care. Thus, families are under a lot of stress.
At the same time, experts face the challenge how they can reach families in crises despite increasing workload or the pressure of cost and decision-making. By this, it is becoming more difficult to be open to help people in need or to seek help.
Families need enough time to establish trust in a save environment, in which they are prepared to break new ground. Experts need reliable working and team structures to adress these challenges. Furthermore, they need space and structures to find alternative solutions with courage and openess.
The congress will address different aspects of creating (successful) relationships in the process of help. Therefore, it looks at the following questions:
The specialist congress is organised by the child protection centres in co-operation with the children protection centre in Cologne. It shows the current state of the scientific debate and reflects on practical experience from youth welfare services. The participants have the opportunity to develop and to reflect on their own views, attitudes and approaches or methods.
Addressees: Experts from child and youth services, health assistance and other from other field, in which they work with families in need.
