Better Internet for Kids (BIK) Policy Map 2023

Better Internet for Kids (BIK) Policy Map 2023

The fourth edition of the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) Policy Map provides an overview of the implementation of the "European Strategy for a Better Internet for Kids" (BIK Strategy) in the EU Member States as well as Iceland and Norway. It is the first report of its kind since the adoption of the updated version of the BIK strategy "BIK+" in May 2022. The findings are organized along the three pillars of the BIK+ strategy: "safe digital experiences", "digital empowerment", and "active participation".

In addition to the HBI, the TU Dublin also participated in the project. It was commissioned by the EU Commission.

You can download the BIK Policy Map here

The BIK strategy, first defined by the European Commission in May 2012, formulates goals in five areas:

  • High-quality online content for children and young people;
  • Digital and media literacy in education;
  • Raising awareness and strengthening personal responsibility;
  • Regulations and tools for a safe online environment for children;
  • Fighting child sexual abuse and exploitation.
