Big Data – Regulative Herausforderungen

Big Data – Regulative Herausforderungen

Hoffmann-Riem, W. (ed.) (2018):  Big Data  –  Regulative Herausforderungen [Regulative Challenges]. Baden-Baden: Nomos Verlagsgesellschafft.

Edited by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Hoffmann-Riem, LL.M.
With contributions by Wolfgang Hoffmann-Riem, Gerrit Hornung, Yoan Hermstrüwer, Andreas von Arnauld, Tobias Mast, Stephan Dreyer, Markus Oermann, Kevin Dankert, Matthias Bäcker, Jan C. Joerden, Tobias Singelnstein, Thomas Hoeren

The book focuses on Big Data against the background of digital transformation, and with the related analytics and practical uses. Examples are its influence on attitudes and behaviours, the development of innovative business models, the controlling of vital infrastructures, the evolution of science, predictive policing, cybercrime etc. The law, such as German and European data protection law as well as antitrust law, is not sufficiently attuned to the specific problems of Big Data. The dissolution of borders, concentration of market power, intransparencies etc. complicate legal protection. New or modified forms of regulatory design and control, among them also modifications of data protection law, protection of transparency and imputability, the expansion of systemic protection, extended impact assessment, legal enclosure of self-regulations and various other measures are needed.

Baden-Baden: Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft, 2018, 203 p., paperback, ISBN 978-3-8487-4782-5, 52,- €. Information of the Publishing House Nomos
