In the Diversity Report 2019 of the Media Authorities, Uwe Hasebrink and Sascha Hölig write about the news usage habits of Internet users.
Overall, the examination of the connection between news interest and news usage shows that the interest people show in news is a decisive category for the news landscape. It clarifies which offers make a profiled news oriented benefit promise in the perception of the population and which do not. Furthermore, it shows that considerations on the role of different media in the formation of public opinion should also take into account that not all groups orient themselves in their news use towards precisely these media. However, in some cases, offers to which a lower information performance is generally ascribed can also gain a special relative weight for the formation of opinion. (…)
